One of the things that I like in this book is the author's candid expression of his own confessions as to how he had committed these mistakes. This illustrates his humbleness as a leader, and in this work he shows us several examples of ways we can use to overcome those sins. The author is not an academic nor a researcher, so you cannot expect this book to have a lot of citations from different sources. Instead Cameron used his own experiences as well as the expertise of others to come up with the pieces of advice in this book.
Aside from what I stated above, the following are further reasons why I would recommend this book for others to read:
1. The book is written in a highly personal way with less business jargon. It is easy to understand and you can implement the ideas immediately.
2. Since the author is writing from the standpoint of a manager who is very much exposed to the sins illustrated, it is very easy to relate. While reading this book, I can feel a real person behind the work. Cameron illustrated the situations in this book the way you and your work colleague will talk about it. It feels like a friend talking to you in book form.
3. The ideas in this book are very helpful. Some may not agree with some ideas or readers may opt to follow some advice or not. Another thing that I like in this book is that the author is not claiming that the advice here are the perfect way to go. Some advice are for foolish or desperate. It is really up to the reader to discern how he can make the ideas part of his own.
4. The book shows some examples of sins that are truly illustrative of what is happening in many workplaces. This book's illustration of sins is closer to what we really see at work. I have personally witnessed several examples of these sins in my workplace.
If you are already a seasoned leader or just starting your journey, you can read this book to be cognizant of the sins you may not know you are committing. If you want to know which sins you are committing, buy and read the book.
